Never a Victim

As we fall from our grasp, we deserve to know why

And if clear, we will never be a victim of the cry

* * *

As people approved my history’s growth

My success was not more than the steady approach

The creation, the process gave me the rise

And the meaning from that was directly mine

The applause from the fans gave nothing but pleasure

And pleasure lasts only till the coming endeavor

As the stars in my eyes slowly drifted away

My heart sank down low for the next few days

A habit that goes by the name of a “cage”

Came swift through my body as it poisoned my brain

I studied the reason and insistent return

And found the transition was causing the burn

The value that came from my purpose and project

Was vanished and flooded by success of the object

But what was so real, was the focus and care

That bled through the art of the story so bare

I fell deep in love with this life and my goal

And when I succeeded, I lost my own mold

As we fall from our grasp, we deserve to know why

And if clear, we will never be a victim of the cry

So continue to search, and to find what is real

What brings you to love and dares you to feel

Mumford & Sons song “Ghosts that we knew” off Babel reveals a similar story of transition from dark to light…enjoy

About Kevin Carlstead

I graduated as a hospitality and psychology student at University of Denver. I spent most of my teenage and young adult years in the hospitality industry. I am still searching for what industry suits my personality and talents so that I can feel more meaning throughout my days. My current career pursuit has me enrolled in a graduate program to become a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I was born and raised in San Diego, CA. I love music with something to it. I love life with something to it. I have made it one of my purposes in this life to integrate both of these things that I love. This blog and my own songwriting has given me the platforms to do that very thing. Thank you for reading.
