Adding the Extra Step

– Allow myself to think how I naturally do in every situation –

– Allow myself to feel how I naturally do in every situation –

If I lived like this and only this, my actions would end up based on impulse, roll in inconsistent circles, and most likely never find a direction towards a life with meaning.

A few potentials that I have beyond this “impulsive life” are living with internal craziness towards my thoughts and emotions, living with internal direction with my thoughts and emotions, and somewhere in between.

Living with internal craziness has everything to do with obsessing towards pleasure and pain…a very self-consumed process that makes me stressed, anxious, and at times depressed. It basically just fills my days with trying to control pain out of my days and push more pleasure into my days. Pain = something life hands me to learn from. Pleasure = something life hands me that I abuse to live in fantasyland, out of reality, and, unfortunately (because an unconscious consequence) away from a passionate direction in life. So, basically everyday with obsession and control is another day leading towards a sadder, tenser life.

On a different note, I have the ability to organize and use reason towards a life-affirming purpose. If I organize the facts of a situation (my thoughts and feelings, and everything outside of my head), observe reality clearly, then make a choice based on the situation at hand and the direction of my life-affirming purpose, I will be going towards a passionate and conscious direction in my life.

So, continue to let my thoughts and feelings naturally roll along (not control them, but live like that “impulsive” person), and then, use organization and reason to direct my actions towards a meaningful purpose. Just adding one more step to that simple life and adding much more meaning.

In order to direct my actions forward with an innocent motivation to understand and care about life…in order to direct my actions forward in the direction of a meaningful purpose…I need to practice organizing facts in my experiences to get better at living in reality. When I live in reality, I find myself more relaxed. When I live in reality, I find myself having all the necessary information. When I am relaxed and have all the necessary and true information on hand, then I make choices that are PASSIONATELY directed toward my life purpose of attaining truth, love, beauty, and wisdom during my days –> a meaningful and fulfilling life.

“Now let me at the truth
Which will refresh my broken mind”

“I know my call despite my faults
And despite my growing fears”

“I need freedom now
And I need to know how
To live my life as it’s meant to be”

“And I’ll find strength in pain
And I will change my ways
I’ll know my name as it’s called again”

About Kevin Carlstead

I graduated as a hospitality and psychology student at University of Denver. I spent most of my teenage and young adult years in the hospitality industry. I am still searching for what industry suits my personality and talents so that I can feel more meaning throughout my days. My current career pursuit has me enrolled in a graduate program to become a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I was born and raised in San Diego, CA. I love music with something to it. I love life with something to it. I have made it one of my purposes in this life to integrate both of these things that I love. This blog and my own songwriting has given me the platforms to do that very thing. Thank you for reading.
